“As the stair strings were helical with notches removed for each step, our client requested a flat plate development for each string. Without the twisted folded plate option it would have been extremely difficult to produce to the tolerance required.” – Garreth Sloan, Advanced Draughting Services Ltd

The Challenge

  • On plan the stair was a Nose shape so each floor to floor stair had 4 helical strings, 2 straight strings and a curved landing. The main stair support was curved SHS with a welded helical flat string which included notches removed for each step.

The Solution

  • As the stair was so complex we had to draw the stair first using polylines and 3D polylines then convert the polylines to plates, curved beams and twisted folded plates.
